Hydrogen to get a boost
Hydrogen and fuel cell technologies will get a boost in the coming weeks when US electrified truck manufacturer Nikola Motor Corporation lists on Nasdaq in the US, according to a report by Lacie Midgley and Sanjay Jha, New Energy & Clean Tech analysts at Panmure Gordon. Nikola has worked with best in breed industry partners, rather than create its own technology in-house, to commercialise hydrogen-powered trucks.
With its unique partner network approach, companies including ITM Power and Ceres Power will likely benefit from being at the forefront of IP development.
Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEV) offer the same environmental benefits of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) while enabling commercial fleet operators to maximise profits with vehicles that have a longer range on more demanding routes. FCEV offers higher energy density than batteries to maximise payload and refuel faster.
Tesla’s cars have proven to be the electric vehicle choice for consumers while Nikola has the opportunity to be the vehicle of choice for electrified heavy-duty trucks, Lacie’s report says.
